Grade 8

In Grade 8, we welcome our new students and assist them in their transition to the High School setting. During this time, we give them time to become familiar with the school, get to know one another and build a relationship with their counselor. We help them navigate their classes and get early exposure to both the expectations and requirements needed prior to their High School experience. Along with promoting social-emotional growth, we introduce the program Naviance to the students and allow them to search future careers and individual strengths.

In Grade 9 our freshman work on the transition to High School courses. In this time, students get to know one another and continue to build a relationship with their counselor. In this time we share resources, support available, getting involved, goal-setting and decision-making. We continue using our Naviance platform and have students do a strengths-based inventory to identify areas they feel confident and how that can translate to the academic setting.

In Grade 11 we begin to discuss preparations for life after graduation. Students have an opportunity to sit for the PSATs in the Fall and continue to check in with their School Counselor. Post PSAT, we sit with our Juniors to go over their scores and discuss their scores and what that translates to regarding scholarships and other post-secondary opportunities. At the end of year the counselors will sit with the students to start going over post-secondary planning through the introduction of Common Application and going over how to incorporate Naviance.

PSAT Presentation

Shortly after students took the PSATs, Guidance went into classes to discuss their PSAT scores and what they meant. We discussed the benefits of taking the PSAT / SAT, some of which being Advanced Placement / International Baccaulurate potential, available scholarships and post-secondary planning opportunities through Naviance. Students recieved the dates this Spring of when the SATs are being offered along with resources such as Kahn Academy that will create an individualized study guide based off the students' PSAT score.

Scoop Night 2024 - Financial Aid / Post-Secondary Planning:

In this presentation, we discuss post secondary pathways and what steps that current juniors can start taking to prepare. From taking the SATs, touring programs and asking for letters of recommendation, this gives students the chance to see what programs look for in their future students and how the Guidance Department will support you throughout.

In Grade 12, our goal is to help students navigate their post secondary plans through the utilization of the program Naviance. Whether it is pursuing college, community college, trade school, etc. we work and support students through the application process and introduce them to the Common Application along with Financial Aid resources. Along with this, we also ensure their graduation requirements are met, have access to scholarships and provide them with the tools necessary to support them as they approach post High School life.

Scholarships / Financial Aid

In this we talked with seniors about the Financial Aid process and the local scholarships that are provided. We discussed both application processes and the importance of meeting those deadlines. Along with this, we discussed what happens after the financial aid application has been submitted and learning about how that impacts your overall tuition.
